A journey to Spain from Candillargues.
An aerial tour
of the Mediterranean shore.
It's Sunday in August and we've planned a
flight to Ampuriabrava. We're about to leave at the crack of dawn to make the
most of the day.
The plane is waking up. We help it out of the hangar.
The flight plan has been filled in for a departure at 6:30 UTC
(8h30). We've to get a move on. The Weather Service forecasts some scattered
cumulus at 2000 feet, then fine weather in Spain.
Little detour via the Camargue. That' isn't on our way, but the
light is so beautiful there.
The first sun rays, filtered by the low clouds, are reflected on
the salterns.
Port Camargue, still sleepy, seems to be highlighted by the
celestial light.
La Grande-Motte, still huddled up, seems to stretch after a long
sleepy night.
We've been flying over Le Cap d’Adge for a while, when we are
quickly covered by a sudden and unexpected see haze. The ceiling fell down
rapidly. Like a giant vise, the sky and the see were trying to crush us. Quick
diversion toward Béziers airport, that we reach at the last minute at an
altitude of 300 feet to stay out of the clouds.
I
reassure the passengers explaining that the heat of the sun will soon clear the
clouds.
Meanwhile, the passengers are relaxing at the side of the runway,
waiting for the sun to do its work.
An ATR 42 coming from Paris meets up with us on the
apron.
